Cupping (Ventosas) Therapy
What is Cupping Therapy?

Five minutes of cupping is equal to 30 minutes of deep tissue massage. Cupping Therapy uses vertical or round glasses (similar to a regular drinking glass) to create suction and gently pull (rather than push as in a regular massage) on the muscles for a more complete release of fascia, nerves and adhesions.
At Centered Spirit, we never use Cupping Therapy as a stand-alone session. Rather, it is recommended at the discretion of the practitioner in conjunction with other healing modalities/techniques according to the client’s needs. Used in both Traditional Maya Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine for thousands of years, cupping disperses wind out of the body, improves blood stagnation and promotes vital Ch’ulel (the Maya word for energy) flow.
Benefits of Cupping
-
Improved blood flow.
-
Pain relief.
-
Reduce inflammation.
-
Stress relief.
-
Release of adhesions and congestion.
What to expect during your treatment:
-
In Traditional Maya Medicine, the cups are not stationary. The practitioner moves or runs the cups along the body.
-
Massage oil will be applied to your skin before cupping to allow for the cup to glide over the muscles, release adhesions and quickly soften congested tissues.
-
Our practitioners are specially trained in fire cupping, which uses heat for a soothing effect on the nervous system. To create a heat vacuum, a flame is placed in the glass very rapidly (one second) then taken out and the glass is immediately placed on the body. You’ll feel a warming sensation and a suction of the skin into the glass.
